Vehicle Fact Sheet: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter City 75 Interurban equipment line

  • Sprinter City 75: attractive body, friendly passenger compartment
  • New: even more comfortable thanks to attractive inter-city seating
  • New: extensive Interurban standard equipment
  • New protective equipment against COVID-19 transmissions

In the Interurban equipment line, the Sprinter City 75 is predestined for long inter-city routes. Thanks to its compact dimensions, it opens up regions that are not accessible to large buses. Its attractive total cost of ownership balance sheet also allows economical public transport with comparatively low passenger volumes, where large buses are not yet profitable.

Sprinter City 75: attractive body, friendly passenger compartment

The Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter City 75 is the pride of the Mercedes‑Benz minibuses for regular-service bus routes. This is illustrated not only by the asymmetrical body design and the distinctive wheelbase, but also by the paint finish of the test vehicle, including its attachments, in „Argentum Metallic“.

Passengers enter the passenger compartment through a double-wing, electrically operated outward swivelling door behind the front axle. Like the single-wing rear door, it is powered by the twelve-volt technology of the Sprinter. The passenger compartment has a low-entry design. The „Waves Nazare“ designer floor covering of the test vehicle has a friendly look and is simultaneously also easy to clean. Two very shallow steps in front of the rear axle lead to the seating area in the rear.

New: even more comfortable thanks to attractive inter-city seating

With its new Inter Star Sprinter inter-city seating, the Sprinter City 75 is now even more comfortable. The upholstered seats have a firm, high backrest and in addition to their comfortable upholstery offer maximum safety thanks to the three-point seat belts on all seats. Here it has a very inviting finish with seat and backrest in black-orange, side bolsters in anthracite, a Composition iron grey headrest, piping in Composition grenadine and a seat back in needlefelt.

The Sprinter City 75 with the Interurban equipment line has adopted the seating layout and thus also the number of seats from the urban bus variant: twelve seats in the high-floor area and a further seven in the low-floor area at the front. The double seats are attached there with a quick-change system. Should an increased number of standing places be required, they can be removed quickly. Of the three double seats in the low-floor segment, the front one can be removed using the quick-release mechanisms to make a safe space for a wheelchair. The passenger compartment is upgraded with stainless steel grab bars, USB ports for mobile devices and an 18.5-inch TFT monitor.

Drive is provided by a proven and powerful four-cylinder diesel engine with 120 kW (163 hp) of power and 360 Nm of torque. Power transmission is handled by a comfortable-to-use seven-speed torque converter. The Sprinter City 75 uses the high-load, driven rear axle with air suspension developed exclusively for Mercedes-Benz minibuses. The twin-tyred unit has a permissible axle load of 4.8 tonnes – the basis for the high permissible gross weight of 6.8 tonnes of the minibus.

New: extensive Interurban standard equipment

In addition to the comfortable inter-city seating, the Interurban equipment line offers additional comfort-enhancing equipment for both the driver and passengers: heated driver’s suspension seat as standard, centre console with MBUX multimedia system featuring seven-inch monitor (10.25-inch in the test vehicle), schoolbus outside mirror to ensure an optimum view of the kerb and the additional hand-lever for the retarder for manual operation of the wear-free eddy current brake in four stages. LED destination displays at the front, side and rear provide information to passengers waiting at the stops, while the air conditioning system for the passenger compartment ensures a pleasant climate in high outside temperatures.

New protective equipment against COVID-19 transmissions

The test vehicle is equipped with numerous components to protect the driver and passengers from COVID-19 transmission. The generous additional partition wall of the cockpit prevents droplet transmission between the passenger compartment and the driver’s workplace. A contactless dispenser for disinfectant in the low-floor area is used for hand hygiene. The front and roof-mounted air conditioning systems are equipped with active filters. Their special anti-viral coating ensures effective capturing of harmful aerosols in the ventilation system’s fresh-air, mixed-air and air-recirculation modes. The rapid air flow in fresh-air mode is assisted by a new forced ventilation system at the rear exit, which effectively counteracts the concentration of aerosols in the vehicle interior.

Small groups, exclusive trips, VIP assignments and the ideal solution for narrow and winding routes – this is where the Sprinter Travel 75 always excels. Everything about the 8.5 m Sprinter Travel 75 is exclusive: the distinctive design, the unique technology and the comfortable equipment. Tailor-made for its purpose, the Sprinter Travel 75 test vehicle demonstrates the state of the art in design, technology, comfort and safety for minibuses for tourist travel.

Unique design and elegant metallic paint

With its distinctive body design, the Sprinter Travel 75 makes an unmistakable impression. The paintwork of the test vehicle including its attachments in „iridium silver metallic“ appears elegant and technical. The side double glazing in black glass emphasises the exclusive appearance.

Exclusive and at the same time dynamically designed passenger compartment

The passenger compartment is very inviting and friendly. The floor is finished with a wood décor, the side walls are covered with anthracite-coloured fleece material, the curtains and the underside of the luggage shelves are in Mars red. The interior ceiling of the bus with air-conditioning ducts on the sides has LED lighting with ambient lighting featuring six selectable light colours. Aluminium-look passenger control panels with jet ventilation and reading lamps are integrated into the luggage shelves, as are four speakers. Each passenger seat is equipped with a two-port USB charging socket for charging mobile devices.

The seating consists of 18 Travel Star Xtra passenger seats. A special feature of the test vehicle is vis-à-vis seating of the double seats in front of the last row of seats with a table. Maximum safety is ensured by three-point seat belts. The Softline seat upholstery features elegant diamond quilting. Seat mirror, backrests and side bolsters bear a sporty check pattern in black/grey. To match, the side seat mirrors and the headrests are made of the leather fibre material Composition in deep black, the piping in Mars red. Refreshments can be found in the top-loading refrigerator (volume 40 litres).

User-friendly cockpit, powerful drive, exclusive rear axle

The cockpit of the Sprinter sets standards. Typical of the minibuses is the clearly arranged switch panel for bus-specific controls above the centre console. The test vehicle features the excellent MBUX multimedia system with a 10.25-inch HD-resolution display.

The drive system is based on the six-cylinder turbo-diesel Mercedes-Benz OM 642. The high-tech drivetrain develops 140 kW (190 hp) and boasts impressively smooth running and high elasticity. The power transmission is handled by the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with torque converter. A unique bus-specific solution is deployed on the driven rear axle, the exclusive twin-tyred air-sprung axle with a permissible axle load of 4.8 tonnes.

The outstanding technology of the Sprinter Travel 75 also includes its safety equipment. In addition to the extensive standard equipment, the test vehicle is also equipped with Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Lane Keeping Assist.
